Thank you for contacting Uptown Notaries. Please find attached wills information sheet that we require you to fill out and send us back prior your appointment. Stating the full legal names of who your executors and beneficiaries are is important. Most couples who have common children and joint assets complete one will information sheet between the two of them. You may indicate with the initials of a person if only that person has a certain asset. You might need additional documents as Power of Attorney and Representation agreement. I have attached information about those documents.
Also, please also bring along any prior Wills that you have made and we keep a copy in your file to show the history of your intentions. Bring the title(s) to any real property you own, if available, and your latest property tax notice. The names on titles and whether you are registered as joint tenants or tenants in common is very important. If you don’t have the titles we can order them for you at a cost of $17.50 per title. Lastly, please bring 2 pieces of valid, government issued identification – one of which must have a photo.
We estimate that your first appointment would take approximately 60 minutes (for couples) and to sign all of the documents (your second appointment) would take approximately 45-60 minutes. Having the above information with you allows us to proceed quickly. Please advice us about special circumstances that may require more time than normal as additional fees would apply or we will have to refer you to a lawyer. Circumstances that would require additional time include disinheriting a spouse or child from your will, making unequal distributions among your children in your will, dividing assets among blended families, if you or your children have significant health problems and if you have corporate holdings. Please advise us about special circumstances prior your appointment
A consultation fee of 50%, towards the final account would be payable at your first appointment. We accept cheques (payable to Uptown Notaries), debit and cash for payment.
Additional fees apply in case you would like to have a Power of Attorney and Representation Agreement. Let us know when you would like to come in for the appointment.
